Sicap, founded in 1995 and based in Bern, Switzerland, is a software company providing mobile applications and network products for GSM operators globally. Sicap operates in France, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa, providing products and solutions in the areas of value-added services, service delivery and payment services.

CHALLENGE

Having monitored the growing momentum of the Russian mobile telecommunications market, Sicap decided to upgrade company operations in the country. The aim was to acquire new blue-chip clients and increase company share in Europe’s most promising market.

Since setting up the firm’s presence in Russia from a standing start would have meant missing out on booming market conditions, Sicap needed to enter into partnership with a global company with established operations in Russia, proven experience in telecommunications and strong capabilities in mobile value-added services (VAS) delivery platforms.

SOLUTION

We set up a competence centre to enhance Sicap’s services and support their operations and clients in Russia. In one project, as part of a contract awarded to Sicap by the major telecommunications group VimpelCom, we performed a number of implementation tasks including rack assembly (Sun servers, disk arrays, tape backup, power supply), connection setup, system configuration (Sun Solaris, Java, Oracle), integration testing and the training of local personnel.

RESULTS

Today, our system is accepted and fully operational. Project collaboration allowed Sicap to quickly obtain the skilled resources needed to serve multiple installation sites simultaneously, overcome cultural and language barriers, and drive down overall project costs. With VimpelCom, we succeeded in installing, integrating and testing all regional sites’ systems to the customer’s specifications.
