At Gartner summit, Reksoft invites Western Europe to experience Russian outsourcing

Reksoft, alongside other leading Russian IT outsourcers, hosts roundtable on Eastern European nearshoring at Gartner Outsourcing & IT Services Summit.

The key theme of the recent Gartner Outsourcing & IT Services Summit, held in London over 15 and 16 June, was outsourcing cost optimisation and new ways to achieve it. The summit has seen a surge of attendees' interest in readjusting current outsourcing contracts, minimising the risks of new provider engagement and new delivery models such as Software as a Service and Cloud Computing. A series of reports were dedicated to new outsourcing destinations underlining the rising impact of the Eastern European nearshore industry.

The Russian software association (Russoft) pavilion has become a notable feature of the Gartner event. A group of the leading outsourcing providers from this region including Reksoft, Luxoft, Auriga, IBA, and Epam took part in the summit, hosting a roundtable on the outsourcing industry in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

Notwithstanding its cultural and geographical proximity to Western Europe, the outsourcing potential of this region remains underestimated, with Western Europe remaining well behind the US in utilising its resources. This despite current combined revenues from the region's IT services export reaching $3.4 bn, a figure second only to India. Though the 2008 industry growth rate has slowed in comparison with previous years, Russia and its neighbours have established themselves as leading outsourcing destinations, and are regularly mentioned by leading analyst agencies.

The speakers underlined the quality of the Russian education system and high calibre of graduates, along with the flexible models and agile methodologies used by the local teams. This creative approach makes IT companies indispensible in sophisticated projects with complex customer requirements or contracts requiring close attention.

Alexander Egorov, Reksoft CEO and recently-elected chairman of Russian software developers association Russoft, said: "The leading Russian IT service companies have a very impressive track record of complex projects with the most demanding customers worldwide. Nevertheless, the region seems to suffer from a poor reputation. I warmly invite anyone cautious about working with a Russian company to hop on a plane and take the 2-3-hour flight from Western Europe and see for themselves how European Moscow and St. Petersburg actually are."
