Reksoft integrates next-generation internet protocol

February, 2nd, 2010, St. Petersburg, Russia - Reksoft, a leading Eastern-European offshore software engineering provider, announced its integration of Internet Protocol version 6, designed to resolve the imminent exhaustion of available IP addresses.

At the moment, nearly all internet networks use Internet Protocol version 4, which offers a limited pool of around 4 billion addresses. However, only 3.4 billion are actually usable, as the remaining addresses have been reserved in advance for technical needs.

The dramatic rise in public internet and mobile device use has led the Number Resource Organization, which is responsible for IP address distribution, to predict that all available IPv4 addresses will be occupied by 2012 at the latest. In January 2010, RIPE, the European coordinator of the IP pool, stated that only 10% of all IPv4 addresses remain available - and the number is shrinking fast.

IPv6 solves the problem by switching to 128-bit addresses, instead of the 32-bit addresses of the previous version. At a stroke, an effectively infinite number of possible IP addresses are created: a rise from 3.4 billion with IPv4 to 340 trillion trillion trillion with IPv6. The protocol also supports embedded encryption features and implements new features that simplify aspects of address assignment.

Migrating to the new IP version requires IPv6-capable software and equipment as well as adjusting existing software, ensuring plenty of business for hardware providers, telecom operators and software engineering companies like Reksoft.

Reksoft implemented IPv6 protocol for its corporate network in January 2010. The project lasted six months and entailed updating the company's network equipment software and informational systems and the agreement of new contracts with the European IPv6 operators that support the protocol.

Now Reksoft not only uses IPv6 at its own offices, but also offers software engineering and adaptation to other companies looking to make the leap to the new-generation protocol.

"We believe that these services will generate high interest among our potential clients," says Alexander Egorov, Reksoft CEO. "We have already received several enquiries from European system integrators, and expect the demand for IPv6 adoption services to mushroom in the next two years."
