There are More Mobiles in Russia than Citizens

According to a study prepared by J'Son & Partners, there are now more mobile phones in Russia, than there are citizens.  By September 2006 the number of Russian mobile networks telephone subscribers had reached 147 million persons.   The overall indicator for mobile service penetration in Russia has reached 103% in all of the country, and 151% in the capital of Moscow and the Moscow Oblast, which comes out to 1.5 mobile phones owned by each Moscow resident.

Russian leading mobile service providers are showing good growth rates too.  Among the fastest growing Russian mobile service providers are: Tele2 and Baykalvestkom (124% and 95% respectively), Uralsvyazinform (33%), SMARTS (37%), Eniseytelecom (58%), Nizhegorodskaya Sotovaya Svyaz (29%) and more.
