Aiming to minimise our consumption of natural resources, Reksoft has started a green IT programme focused on saving energy, recycling materials and reducing CO2 emissions. We began by conducting an environmental audit and followed it up with an employee survey to explore the possibilities for reducing our impact on the environment. Suggestions flew in thick and fast from all over the company, and many have already been implemented. We have already taken some steps towards reducing Reksoft’s carbon footprint: for instance, the virtualisation of all project servers has been successfully performed, increasing computer efficiency by 20% and reducing electricity consumption by 15%. All the UPS lead-acid batteries are sent to recycle points. A number of virtual meeting tools have been introduced to reduce non-essential business travel. And in a city where snow, narrow lanes and snaking canals can cause traffic to become static, we’ve done our bit to get more cars off the road too. But Reksoft is striving to improve its environmental performance still further. If you have any stories to share about making your office greener and cleaner, we’d love to hear them!
Reksoft sponsored this year's Baltic Science and Engineering Contest, which sees pupils from middle schools across Russia compete in projects in the natural and exact sciences, with the best chosen by a panel of scientists, teachers and businessmen. The projects were divided into six sectors - mathematics, software development, physics, biology, chemistry and engineering. The contest is listed as a national academic competition. Since 2001, 27 participants from St. Petersburg have won prizes ranging from laptops and cameras to mobile phones, awarded by the heads of major product companies. "The guys' work really impressed us," said Igor Kravchenko, Reksoft's Global Delivery Director, who was present at the event. "It's great that, along with technical content, these projects also have some kind of business application that can be developed."
Reksoft has launched its annual academic courses in software development and programming at St. Petersburg State University, the University of Aerospace and St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University. This year one of the courses will be delivered by Sergey Kuznetsov, head of Reksoft's R&D department. Sergey has developed an authorized course ‘Information System sans Reproche'. During the lectures Sergey will reveal the secrets of information system classification, the pros and cons of each type, evolution potential, usability and more.

Reksoft football team fought to become the best among St. Petersburg ICT companies, winning the annual football cup among amateurs. This is the year of glory of champion’s title, and we at Reksoft are proud of our team. Reksoft has been playing in non-professional league of St.Petersburg ICT companies for the last 9 years but the best results so far were the fourth place in the competition in 2001. This year the victory finally turned to Reksoft and eight out of the total nine games were won by Reksoft sportsmen. The sports traditions are strong in the company and team sport is considered among the most powerful drivers of team building. Among other company-supported team sports like carting and volleyball, football grew up to be the most successful and recognized. For the last decade a strong football team was developed in Reksoft with new employees actively joining it. More individual types of sport are welcomed in the company. The corporate contracts are arranged with the best fitness clubs, swimming pools, etc.
SoftBrands Medallion is among the successful software products, entirely developed in Russia. Once upon a time, Medallion - a property management software package - was a Reksoft proprietary product, marketed under the WinnLodge brand, in Switzerland. Today, Medallion is one of the flagship products of SoftBrands, an American hospitality and manufacturing software company, and this Fall, Medallion has experienced its 1000th installation! Reksoft is not only responsible for the full-cycle product co-development, including Product Management, Project Management and Development, but continues to provide maintenance, 2nd and 3rd line support to SoftBrands and its customers.
We are very proud of this Russo-American collaboration on software product development and the achievements of Medallion itself. We are very grateful to SoftBrands, for their way of letting us know, that they care too. And the coffee mugs for the entire Medallion team at Reksoft, commemorating the 1000th installation of Medallion, and the accompanying warm ‘Thank you' note from Steve VanTassel, a Sr. Vice President at SoftBrands - it all makes us feel good: "We want to thank you and your team for all their hard work, support and dedication in making Medallion a truly global application... I am looking forward to 2007 and a strong start toward the second 1,000 Medallion properties!"
