On a sunny and brisk Friday morning, (September 15th), a delegation of four Fairfax County Economic Development Authority officials crossed the threshold of the new Reksoft office.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) promotes Fairfax County, Virginia, as a world-class center of commerce and trade and the technology hub of the east coast. The FCEDA provides a wide array of information and free services designed to help American and international businesses locate or expand commercial operations in Fairfax County. A thriving business community builds the commercial tax base and helps Fairfax County fund award-winning public services that support our quality of life.

Reksoft, traditionally focused on working with European enterprises is looking to expand operations in the USA. Upon a quick presentation of our company, Reksoft and FCEDA representatives turned to discussing the current state of Russian-American mutual perceptions, not the political aspects, but the general feeling in the streets and in the business circles. Our guests from the Fairfax County confirmed that Russia is still seen as a depositary to ‘rocket scientists’, but there is no real understanding of how to make commercial sense of that knowledge. Many American entrepreneurs don’t have a clue on how to approach the Russian market, and Russian companies are still very timid in their marketing activities abroad.

A typical Russian company, wishing to do business in the US is faced with the ancient “the chicken or the egg” dilemma: opening up an office in America is a costly endeavor, and the investment is most likely to pay back only for companies already working with US clients, where as attracting US clients without local representation is next to impossible.

To sum up, Reksoft is definitely looking to go see what the Wild West is all about, and the Fairfax County Development Authority will gladly lend us a hand.
